Leila Luliana da Costa Vieira Lopes (born February 26, 1986) is an Angolan beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Angola 2011 and Miss Universe 2011.

Born in Benguela, Angola, to immigrant parents originally from Cienfuegos, Cuba during the war. Lopes is a business management student in Great Britain, where she was crowned Miss Angola UK on October 8, 2010, the official representative of the Angolan community in the United Kingdom to the 2011 Miss Angola pageant.

On September 12, 2011 she was crowned Miss Universe 2011.

Lopes, who stands 1.79 m (5 ft 10 1⁄2 in) tall, competed as one of 21 finalists in her country's national beauty pageant, Miss Angola, held in Luanda on December 18, 2010, where she obtained the Photogenic Award and became the eventual winner of the title, gaining the right to represent Angola in Miss Universe 2011.

She was crowned winner of 2011 Miss Universe in São Paulo, Brazil on September 12, 2011, becoming the 1st Angolan Miss Universe. Lopes received the title from the former Miss Universe titleholder, Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.

Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete, 22, won the Miss Universe 2010 pageant held today, August 24 (Philippine time), at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The Philippines' Venus Raj was named 4th runner-up, Ukraine's Anna Poslavska 3rd runner-up, Australia's Jesinta Campbell 2nd runner-up, and Jamaica's Yendi Phillipps 1st runner-up.

For the question and answer portion, actor William Baldwin asked Raj what she did to correct a big mistake in her life. Raj said, "In my 22 years of existence, I can say that (I haven't had a major, major problem) because I am very confident with my family and the love that they are giving to me so thank you so much that I am here. Villar Casts Vote!

Villar casts vote, leaves precinct worried about disenfranchisement...

Casting his vote on Monday might have been easy for Sen. Manuel "Manny" Villar Jr.

But the Nacionalista Party bet still left the precinct center in Las Pinas with some worries in his mind.

Villar, who arrived at the STI College precinct center at Talon 2 village past noon, expressed concerns about the long lines he witnessed as he entered the venue.

"Kinakabahan ako kasi nakita ko ang haba ng pila. Hindi natin talaga alam kung ilang porsyento ang nakakaboto," Villar told reporters after casting his vote.

(I was apprehensive when I saw how long the lines were. We still don’t know how many people voted.)

Besides glitches in the precinct count optical scan machines, long lines in precinct areas had been reported across the Philippines — which critics say may not only delay the process but end up disenfranchising voters.

The Commission on Elections has already extended voting hours from until 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday.

"Pagka masyadong maliit ang porsyento [ng makakaboto], nakakalungkot yan kasi that means ang daming nadi-disenfranchise," he added.

(It will be sad to know if the percentage of voters who cast their ballots are too small. This means a lot of voters have been disenfranchised.)

But the senator himself was able to breeze through the long lines simply because he was already a senior citizen, for whom a separate but shorter queue had been designated. He turned 60 last December.

Erlina Legaspi, a master teacher from the Talon Elementary School who acts as a supervisor of the Board of Election Inspectors, said there were no problems in the counting machines as of Monday noon.

The biggest issue they encountered was several incidents of voters failing to find their names in the voters' list.

"Maganda naman ang takbo dito [Everything is going smoothly]," Legaspi told GMANews.TV.

The STI precinct houses some 70 original precincts that were clustered into just 13 new precincts.

She also noted the long queues formed at the polling center, saying the people might have just been "too excited to vote since it's the first automated polls."

Villar arrived at the polling center with his wife Cynthia, both of them wearing their trademark orange attires.

Upon reaching the voting booth, the situation inside the venue turned raucous as photojournalists scrambled to get a shot of the senator.

An election voter was even prompted to bellow, "Ang bastos niyo naman. Nababastos itong mga botante [That's so disrespectful. You are disrespecting the voters]."

Her tirades were directed at some photojournalists who ended up pushing around voters just to get near Villar.

After casting his vote, Villar reminded the public that the election process does not end in voting, adding that the people should be more vigilante with the canvassing and transmission of votes.

"Simula pa lang ang proseso... Tignan muna natin ang porsyente bago natin sabihin na matagumpay ito," he said.

Villar said he felt "more relaxed" now that the three-month campaign period has finally come to an end.

He took delight at the idea that he could finally spend some time with his wife and daughter now that elections are about to end — something he could not do ever since he announced his bid for presidency.

"Excited na ko na tapos na at sana maayos [ang kalabasan ng botohan] at kung hindi maayos baka maging active na naman tayo," Villar said.

(I’m excited that everything’s over and I wish that it turns out well. If they don’t, I just might be forced to become active again.)

The camp of Sarah Geronimo on Monday maintained that the pop star princess is still supporting Nacionalista Party (NP) standard-bearer Sen. Manny Villar and running mate Loren Legarda.

Viva Films head Vic del Rosario made this clarification after a photo of Geronimo flashing the “Laban” sign and wearing a yellow shirt began circulating in the internet.

Del Rosario said he suspects the picture was altered to show that the singer is supporting Villar’s opponent, Liberal Party standard bearer Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, who is ahead by 12 percentage points over Villar in the latest survey.

Geronimo is among the roster of celebrities endorsing Villar’s camp.

Villar's camp said it tapped Geronimo because it recognizes her patience and hardwork that resulted in her success.

The senator's camp, however, refused to confirm if Geronimo was paid P20 million in exchange for her endorsement.

Aside from Geronimo, Comedy King Dolphy and popular noontime host Willie Revillame are also endorsers of Villar.

Jackson's death came as the singer prepared to make a keenly anticipated concert comeback in London, his first series of shows in more than a decade and the first since his 2005 acquittal on child molestation charges.

However those concerts -- billed as the "final curtain" -- were thrown into doubt after Jackson pushed back the opening dates last month.

Organizers of the concerts at the time stressed the delay was not linked to Jackson's health. When asked about Jackson's physical condition, Randy Phillips of concert backers AEG Live said: "I would trade my body for his tomorrow. He's in fantastic shape."

While Jackson reigned as the "King of Pop" in the 1980s, his once-stellar career was overshadowed by his colorful public behavior, his startling physical transformation and multiple allegations of child abuse.

Jackson lived as a virtual recluse following his 2005 acquittal on charges including child molestation and plotting to kidnap his young accuser.

Despite his acquittal, the trial was a body blow from which the pop music superstar struggled to recover.

Four years later, Jackson was still worshipped by fans for revolutionizing music, dance and music videos at the peak of his success.

The attention however paid to him in recent years was less flattering, focusing on apparent cosmetic surgery -- which he denies -- his baby dangling antics and a decade of swirling child abuse allegations.

Born on August 29, 1958, Jackson made his show business debut with four of his older brothers in the Jackson Five pop group, and went on to lead the stage clan with a piping soprano and dazzling dance moves.

By 1969, the group had signed a contract with Motown Records, becoming one of the last great acts to emerge from the legendary label.

The Jacksons produced seven platinum singles for Motown, selling over a million, and three multi-platinum albums, selling more than two million. They moved to CBS's Epic Records in 1976.

Despite the early success, Jackson was to recall those years as unhappy and lonely ones. Eventually the family act broke up, as Jackson went solo.

In 1979, Quincy Jones produced Jackson's first solo album for Epic, "Off the Wall," a huge disco-oriented success that sold 10 million copies.

They teamed up again in 1982 for what would be Jackson's breakthrough album as a composer and co-producer, "Thriller," which became the top-selling album of all time, with sales exceeding 41 million.

Jones reacted with shock after being informed of Jackson's death Thursday.

"I'm absolutely devastated at this news," he said. "I just don't have the words. Divinity brought our souls together and allowed us to do what we could do through the '80s," Jones said.

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- First Oscar De La Hoya, now Ricky Hatton. The way Manny Pacquiao is handing out beatings, maybe Floyd Mayweather Jr. should have stayed retired.
Pacquiao cemented his claim to being the best pound-for-pound boxer Saturday night with a spectacular performance that ended with Hatton sprawled helplessly on the canvas after a devastating left hand to the head late in the second round.
Hatton laid on the canvas for several minutes while doctors tended to him before finally leaving the ring with a wry smile on his face. He was taken to a local hospital for a precautionary brain scan.
Pacquiao was always supposed to be quicker than Hatton, but he was also a lot stronger -- and a lot more accurate. He landed 73 of his 127 punches in the fight in a display that had to catch the attention of Mayweather, who earlier in the day said he would return to the ring for a July 18 fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.
Hatton, meanwhile, connected on only 18 of 78 punches, according to ringside stats.
"I'm surprised the fight was so easy," Pacquiao said. "He was wide open for the right hook. I knew he would be looking for my left."
Pacquiao had the perfect game plan for Hatton, evading his bullying rushes and then picking him apart with counter punches. The performance was even more stunning because Hatton had lost only once and has been a world-class fighter for years.
"Are you happy?" Pacquiao asked promoter Bob Arum in the ring afterward.
"You're going to be the greatest fighter who ever lived," Arum replied.
That would take some doing, but on this night Pacquiao staked a claim to greatness that few would have thought possible before he scored his big upset over De La Hoya last December.
Pacaquiao needed less than half a round to figure out the onrushing Hatton, hitting him with a flurry of punches midway through the first round before putting him down for the first time with a right hook to the head. Hatton got up at the count of eight but Pacquiao landed another flurry and dropped him again just before the end of the round.
Hatton attempted to carry the fight to Pacquiao in the second round but was mostly ineffective as Pacquiao sized him up for a big punch. It finally came at the end of the round when he landed a left cross that flattened the English fighter.
"It was a hard loss but I'm OK," Hatton said. "I really didn't see the punch coming but it was a great shot. I know I'll be OK."
Pacquiao was a 2-1 favorite, but few thought Hatton would go easily. His only loss came when he was stopped in the 10th round by Mayweather Jr., and he built a career and a reputation as a tough and aggressive fighter who wore his opponents down.
But he stood no chance against Pacquiao, whose punches came straight down the middle and landed with increasing frequency as the fight went on.
"I was just doing my job," said Pacquiao, who is a national hero in the Philippines and is fast becoming a hero among boxing fans. "I always try to do my best in the ring."
Pacquiao's best on this night quickly quieted a boisterous crowd of 16,262 at the MGM Grand arena, many of them who came over from England to sing and chant Hatton's praises. They didn't even get a chance to warm up, though, before Hatton was on the canvas for the first time of the night.
"The fight was no surprise to me," Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, said. "We know he always pumps his hands before he throws a punch. He's a sucker for the right hook."
On the same day Mayweather announced his return to the ring, Pacquiao stole the undefeated former champion's thunder with a performance that was so lopsided it looked like a sparring session. Even more impressive, it came in only his third fight over 130 pounds.
Pacquiao weighed 138 pounds for the fight to 140 for Hatton, and was fighting a bigger man for the second time in a row. But nothing seems to bother the boxer who is so popular at home that there is talk of him running for president some day.
Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 knockouts) earned $12 million for the fight, while Hatton (45-2) was paid $8 million.

Anne Curtis is still overwhelmed by her Best Actress win at the recently concluded Metro Manila Film Festival. She won for her performance in the movie "Baler", where she starred opposite Jericho Rosales. "Sobrang ibang klase 'yung happiness," Anne said happily during her interview on The Buzz yesterday, January 4. "Iba 'yung fulfillment, 'yung extreme happiness. Surreal na nga siya kasi sobrang akong happy na hindi ko na siya ma-explain."

The actress also revealed that her former boyfriend, actor Sam Milby, congratulated her on her achievement. Mischievous Korean Princess: Jang Nara

Jang Nara (born March 18, 1981) is a Korean singer and actress.

As a child, Jang spent most of her childhood in her birthplace, Seoul, but appeared with her father in a play, Les Misérables, in her primary school days, thus sparking her interest to become an actress. Jang also went on to become an advertisement model for some CF advertisements in her high school days before entering into the Department of Theater, the Faculty of the Art in Chungang University around March 2000.

Jang also moved into singing by releasing her first album with the title song, "Burying My Face In Tears", and selling 300,000 copies in the process. According to fans, the song was applauded as harmonized native melody line and her native vocal. I don’t know if we can disclose already the soap, but yes we’re doing something in January. Whether their first project will be the remake of the hit Korean series "Lovers in Paris" still remains to be seen. After Maging Sino Ka Man Book 2 ended during the early part of 2008, John Lloyd Cruz kept on fielding more successful projects including his movie A Very Special Love and his first romantic-comedy series I Love Betty La Fea. Coupled with his much-applauded surprise appearance during Sarah Geronimo’s concert The Next One and the start of production on their follow-up movie, 2008 is certainly full of defining moments in his career. On the other hand, he couldn’t help but dwell on its downside as well. “Andami-daming dapat ipagpasalamat. [Pero] kung meron mang isang parte, na hindi naman sa nakakalungkot [pero] sana next year mas makuha ko, I want to spend more time with my friends and my family,” he admitted to ABS-CBN.com. “Pero siyempre, when you talk about priorities, siyempre work muna ‘di ba? Pero I am hopeful na next year kahit madaming trabahong dumating, hindi pa rin magsa-suffer yung time ko with my family, for my friends, and most especially for myself,” he added.

As it happens, John Lloyd has barely time to think of how he’s going to welcome the year ahead with his hands full of work to do during this holiday season. “Honestly hindi ko pa siya nararamdaman. Ang daming trabaho this December, sobra-sobrang trabaho. So parang I am almost suffocated. Pero I take things as it comes eh, huwag muna nating unahan. Kung ano’ng mangyayari next year, it will handle itself. Sa ngayon there’s I Love Betty La Fea, there’s Part 2 of A Very Special Love, mga bagong pumapasok na endorsements… dun muna ako nakatutok,” he said in earnest.

Being one of the most bankable actors and sought-after leading men in the business brings much prestige and it is definitely not an easy feat. With all the commitments that he has to deal with, John Lloyd hopes that he can accomplish them all without burning out himself. “Sana lang I’d be able to handle it kasi it’s been overwhelming eh. Yung success na natatamo ko, yung mga dumadating sa akin… Ang wish ko lang sana mahandle ko sila wisely, with the kind of wisdom na magdadala sa akin pa-forward. At the thanksgiving press conference of Kahit Isang Saglit, Jericho Rosales had also let it slip that Carmen was doing a movie with John Lloyd, adding further to the speculations. When ABS-CBN.com met up with Lloydy during the Bloggers Love Betty tour at the EcoModa set, we asked the reigning box office king about the rumors.

“Nag cameo ako sa movie niya (Carmen) with Direk Chito (Roño). Cameo lang ‘yung akin. May eksena kami ni Carmen na na-shoot na namin,” Lloydy exclusively told ABS-CBN.com. The actor also talked about what it was like working with Carmen. Lloydy even made a joke about what happened when he shot the short scene with the Malaysian actress. “Nagpapa-guide siya sa akin kung may mga hindi siya naiintindihan. Biniro ko siya, sabi ko, ‘I didn’t sign up for that. Dapat bayaran mo ako (laughs).’”

John Lloyd Cruz once again stressed that his relationship with his magazine editor girlfriend Liz is still going strong and that the issue with Carmen is nothing but a made-up story. Piolo Pascual: ‘I’m happy na wala ako’ng kaaway’

It seems Piolo Pascual and Judy Ann Santos are bound to cross paths again as they are both included in the guest list of Ogie Alcasid’s showbiz anniversary concert this month. Contrary to the circulating rumors, however, the country’s ultimate heartthrob has no problem dealing with his former onscreen partner. He even reiterates the fact that he recently bumped into Judy Ann and her fiancé, Ryan Agoncillo, during a connecting flight at the Dubai airport. “Nagkasabay kami ng flight galing ng Paris (for the 6th Paris Cinema Festival). Nagkasabay kami sa Dubai at nagkasalubong pa kami sa linya. We exhanged hi’s and hello’s and that's it. Wala kaming issues,” he states in the recently-concluded Ponds Dream Date event.

Despite his noncommittal statement, it seems that his friendship with Judy Ann during the peak of their kilig team-up will never be the same. This is in line with his controversial rift with Ryan who’s reportedly jealous of him back in 2006—the year wherein Piolo and Judai revived their team-up both on the boob tube (Sa Piling Mo) and the silver screen (Don’t Give Up On Us). Perhaps to defuse further intrigues, Piolo points out that they have just gone separate ways. “Natural lang naman na you grow apart and at the same time I’m happy dun sa buhay niya. Kung ano man ang meron si Judai, I’m happy na masaya sila, hanggang dun lang,” he stresses.

Their multitude of fans though can’t help but miss the two’s undeniable onscreen chemistry. Given a chance, will Piolo consider working with Judai again? “Ah yes, I’m very open. I never closed my doors with anyone especially with Judai. Bahala na lang kung mangyayari yun kung kalian,” he quickly replies. Claudine supports Judy Ann's efforts to get the movie Ploning a nomination in the upcoming Academy Awards in Hollywood.

“She took the risk eh, not everybody does that. I’m so proud of her.” Actress Claudine Barretto expressed her happiness towards her supposed showbiz rival Judy Ann Santos’ successful fundraising activities for the movie Ploning’s bid to the Oscars. In fact, Claudine donated some of her outfits to Judai’s auction last November 28. Although rumored time and again to be enemies, Claudine and Judy Ann both insisted in several interviews that they are very much friends in real life. "Sabi ko, 'Mare, anything you need, nandito ako. Sunduin mo na lang 'yung ipang-o-auction natin, ganyan-ganyan,'" related Claudine.

When asked if she desires to also make it to the Oscars someday, Claudine said that she’s not taking the spotlight just yet from Judai. Ruffa Gutierrez even recalled her experience working with Judai and Claudine in a shampoo commercial and said that the two are really good friends and that there are just some people who want them to be enemies. Boy Abunda cited Claudine's efforts as a good example to the showbiz industry. Mark Angelo Cadaweng Cielo (May 12, 1988 - December 7, 2008), better known as Marky Cielo was a Filipino actor and dancer.

Pre-showbiz and Personal life
Cielo grew up in Butuan, then moved to Mountain Province in 2001. He spoke the Kankanaey, Ilocano, Tagalog and Bisaya languages (precisely Butuanon and Cebuano) fluently. According to his real life story in Magpakailanman, Marky's parents were separated when he and his sister were little children, and then their mother took care of them on her own. He only met his father again after many years.

Joining StarStruck
When his classmates convinced Cielo to join StarStruck, he accepted. He won the Ultimate Male Survivor title, and the first Sole Survivor title of Batch 3. He was the first Igorot ever to join that contest. Among Marky's prizes was a house and lot in Antipolo. He and his family lived in his new home.

Death
Cielo was found dead on December 7, 2008 by his mother, who went to his room in their house in Antipolo City around 10 a.m. to wake him up for a charity event. He was 20 years of age. An initial report says that he died in his sleep. Cielo was last seen in LaLola, which he left his character "Billy".

Now, who will replace him as "Billy" in LaLola?

Young actor Marky Cielo was reportedly found dead inside his bedroom, in his family’s Antipolo residence yesterday, December 7. Marky was just 20 years old. According to doctors they are considering acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis as the possible cause of the teen actor’s death. It is the same cause of death of former matinee idol Rico Yan in 2002.

Marky is the product of GMA-7's reality-based star search Star Struck. He was declared the Ultimate Male Survivor and Sole Survivor of the show’s third season in 2006. Known for his smooth dance moves, Marky last performed live on stage in the recent 22nd Star Awards TV with ABS-CBN stars Maja Salvador, Rayver Cruz, Erich Gonzales and fellow Star Struck winners Mark Herras and Ryza Cenon.

Pacquaio toys with a battered De La Hoya

Manny Pacquiao produced an astonishing display to stop Oscar De La Hoya after eight rounds of their superfight in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
In March this year Pacquiao was plying his trade at super-featherweight, while De La Hoya was a light-middle.
Here they met at welterweight, and Oscar was expected to hold all the aces in terms of size and reach.
But once the build-up was over and they finally got in the ring, it was speed that killed as the Filipino icon first mystified De La Hoya, and then worn out him.
Manny started the attack by boxing well from the outside, and even in the early going he just couldn't miss with his straight left lead through the De La Hoya guard.
Oscar meanwhile, who came in at his lightest weight in 11 years (145lbs), appeared tense and sluggish, struggling to get his punches off with any speed or power.
In the seventh it was time for Manny to move in for the kill, and with De La Hoya apparently ineffective to get off the ropes, the Filipino icon scored at will with constant attacks.
De La Hoya signaled that he wanted to go on regardless of his struggles, and did keep Pacquiao at woof for the first two minutes of round eight.
But in the dying seconds of the round he was back on the ropes a broken man as Pacquiao handed out more punishment. It was like Ali v Holmes back in 1980 - a once-great fighter faded beyond recognition acting as a virtual punch bag.
With his eye virtually shut, Oscar was told by referee Tony Weeks between rounds that if he kept eating punches the fight would be stopped.
More punishment wasn't necessary though, as the ring doctor decided enough was enough before the ninth could get under way.
For Pacquiao it brought to a close one of the most brilliant performances in ring history. And next up could be a showdown with Ricky Hatton.
For De La Hoya meanwhile, it surely signaled the end of a golden age.

P4P king Manny Pacquiao produced an astonishing performance to stop a faded Oscar De La Hoya at the end of round eight in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Pacquiao in tearful prayer in his corner and now milking the applause and cheers from this astonished crowd. Oscar meanwhile cuts a sad and broken figure. He got old before our very eyes tonight. Roach was right all along, Pacquiao was brilliant and a deserved winner. An astonishing performance - won every round for me and just grew in confidence. Rounds 7 and 8 were like watching Ali v Holmes all over again. A faded legend being used as a punch bag.

Round 8: This could be the last round of a glorious career for Oscar De La Hoya, unless he can pull something amazing out of the bag. Oscar on the front foot and trying to shake off the depths he sank to in that torrid seventh when he must have been on the brink of being stopped. No timing in Oscar's shots. Pacman meanwhile is just too quick and he can't miss. Oscar again on the ropes and in trouble. Pacquiao again connects with a cracking left. Oscar on the ropes, so tentative, so easy to hit. Pacman raises his hands over his head and smacks his gloves together. Almost asking Oscar to fight. De La Hoya on the ropes, takes another big left but just does survive to the bell.

Round 7: Ricky Hatton between rounds describes it as "embarrassingly one-sided, and adds of Oscar: "Either way he's messed the weight up". We'll see. Freddie Roaoch said Oscar can't pull the trigger any more. Certainly looks that way so far. Pacman again boxing off the front foot in the seventh. He's stepping in and out and scores with another left to De Hoya's face. Now Manny becoming more aggressive - starting to unload soome bombs. Oscar on the ropes and taking sustained punishment. He's throwing nothing back. De La Hoya's left eye is closing - he's in massive trouble here.

Round 6: Moving towards the halfway stage now and frankly this has been pretty embarrassing so far for De La Hoya. But the Pacman is breathing pretty heavily between rounds. Can he last the pace? We'll find out soon. Oscar really struggling against the southpaw stance, and the speed of Pacquiao. Manny again controlling the pace in the sixth. He's surrendering centre ring to Pacquiao. More body shots from Manny. De La Hoya spits back defiance with a right. Manny scoring at will with that lead left. Two in quick succession. Oscar looks tense and befuddled. Manny meanwhile just cannot miss Oscar's face with that left hand. Oscar trying to establish the jab but not being allowed to get Pacman in range. Manny is never still and Oscar can't pin him down. Feints and lefts to end the round for Pacman. Another round to him on my card. I've got it 60-54 in favour of the Filipino.

Round 5: Good right from Oscar to start the fifth. He's only throwing single shots though. Nothing to really put Manny under any sort of pressure. Manny still on his toes but Osar is trying to push him round a bit. Can't believe Manny can keep this pace up for 12, but he's scored with another cracking punch there - this time a right. He's boxing De La Hoya's ears off here. He can't miss. Oscar looks old and slow. Pacquiao now the aggressor - moving forward and throwing body shots. Always one step ahead. Oscar needs to land something to change the course of this fight. Gets in close and hits Pacman with a couple of uppercuts. Manny takes them though. Another good combination from Pacman and another round to the Pacman on my card. He's pitched a shutout so far - 50-45.

Round 4: Ricky Hatton, ringside for Sky Sports, says Oscar doesn't look very well and Manny is boxing fantastically. Two more lefts score again for Pacman early in the fourth. He's ramming it right down the middle between the Golden Boy's guard. Nice combination from Manny but he's having to move an awful lot to stay out of range. Oscar lands with a left - bit more success for him in this round. Body punches from both men in little flurries. Pacman putting on a clinic so far here. Oscar can't cope with the speed of Manny so far. Another round for Manny on my card. 40-36 so far. Nacho Beristain goes to work in the De La Hoya corner. Needs to get Oscar to relax a little.

Round 3: Oscar looks tense so far and hasn't managed to get Pacquiao in range. Needs to establish a foothold in the fight. Needs too slow Manny down somehow. That left hook would be the ideal way. Pacquiao hitting and running - trying to avoid taking anything in return. Oscar meanwhile looking all the time for the big shot to make that size advantage count. Oscar lands with a right and has Manny on the ropes, but Pacman escapes quickly. Then Manny scores again with that left. Two jabs from Oscar but Manny responds with a nice combination to the body. Not hurtful, but scoring. Then another shot to the rib cage of the Golden Boy. Oscar misses with a left and then a right as the bell sounds. Another close round, again I'd have to edge it for Manny. Three in row for me but how are the judges seeing it?

Round 2: Out for the second and can Pacman repeat that success of the first. Manny on the ropes early but gets off them very quickly. Again that left lead from Manny scores. Oscar hits back with a super jab. Another straight left from Manny scores - in and out here, troubling De La Hoya with his speed and movement. Oscar goes to the body but Pacman fires back with that lightning left. Good uppercut from Pacquiao but nothing to hurt De La Hoya yet, though the P4P king is boxing nicely. Nice combination from Pacquiao and again the left is good. He's just too quick for Oscar at present, but he's heavier than ever before. Will that tell later on. Manny's round again for me - 20-18 after two.

Round 1: We're under way and this is a real journey into the unknown. Will it be worth the weight? Let's find out now. Cagey opening with Pacman staying on the outside and Oscar sizing him up. De La Hoya on the front foot trying to establish his stiff jab. Pacman trying to get off early and then has to duck a De La Hoya hook. Pacman looking sharp though. Lands a couple of times to big cheers inside the arena. Oscar having trouble pinning Manny down early. Pacquiao just misses with a big left counter. Pacquiao apparently growing in confidence after a good start. First left hook lands from De La Hoya, Pacquiao takes it. Left from De La Hoya scores but Pacman fires back with a straight left through De La Hoya's guard. Oscar struggling early against the southpaw stance. Close round, one up to Pacquiao for me.

John “Sweet” Lapus gives his all-out support to friend Judy Ann Santos!

Maybe this is one reason why John Lapus earned for himself the nickname, “Sweet.” Sure, he has his own explanation as to how the moniker came about; but seeing the TV host/comedian emceeing last week in Judy Ann Santos’ fundraising event Damit Para Kay Ploning confirms that John Lapus is also known as Sweet because, well, he’s a sweet friend.

The event held at Plaza Ibarra, Tomas Morato was to raise funds and lobby Judy Ann’s film Ploning into the Best Foreign Film category in the 2009 Academy Awards in Hollywood. Sweet, Judai, her best friend Beth Tamayo, and comedienne Candy Pangilinan, among others, took turns as auctioneer during Damit Para Kay Ploning. They hosted and entertained the bidders, who laughed at their impromptu spiels and gushed over the vast collection of items up for bid. Prior to the auction, Judai staged fundraising dinners at the home of Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez. It was well-attended and supported by the actress’ celebrity friends, including Sweet, who even shared some pictures of the get-together in one of his recent KText journals.

Despite the fact that Sweet is working outside of ABS-CBN, he still remains a Kapamilya as a contract artist of Star Magic and Kapamilya KText. He has said before during the height of his controversial network switch that he owes ABS-CBN too much to ever let go. You have been an actor for so long, playing many different roles. What is the most difficult thing about your job?

Ang pinakamahirap is that as an actor, you deal with emotions. Sometimes those emotions are very heavy, and it’s hard to let go even after you leave the set. Kaya siguro minsan napapagkamalan akong suplado ng mga tao. What they don’t realize is imposible talagang di ka maapektuhan ng role, lalo na kapag mabigat na drama.

Do you sometimes feel that you’re misunderstood by people because of your job?

I get that a lot. Di ba nga, meron silang tinatawag na ‘John Lloyd mood’? When I’m on the set and I’m internalizing a role, there are times na hindi ako makausap. I take my work seriously.

Is that really part of your work as an actor?

I guess. It comes with the territory. It might sound like nagsusuplado na naman ako, but I don’t expect everyone to like me, or to understand the way I do things.

Where does your motivation for your work come from?

One thing’s for sure: I don’t work for the awards. The acting awards are just a bonus. If people recognize your craft, that’s the main thing. Pero hindi awards ang dahilan kung bakit ka nagtra-trabaho. It should never be the case, otherwise you lose sight of the real reason for being here.

Your meteoric rise in the last few years has people calling you a big threat to the career of many of your fellow ABS-CBN talents, notably Piolo Pascual. How do you feel about that?

I’m just big; I’m not a threat. (Laughs). In all honesty, malayo pa ako sa naabot ni Piolo. He’s done a concert at Araneta Coliseum; I haven’t. I can’t even sing or dance. And seriously, mataas ang respeto ko kay Piolo, both as an actor and as a person. I don’t see myself as being in competition with him.

You have successfully established your own identity as an actor, apart from Piolo. How did you do that? What would you say is the secret of your success?

I think that what it boils down to is realizing and accepting what you can and can’t do. Piolo can sing; I can’t. But I can act. It’s important to find your niche, learn what you’re good at, and develop that.

Who are the people who have helped you succeed in your career?

A lot. Wala naman kasing perpektong artista. There is always something to learn from every person that you work with. Like in Maging Sino Ka Man, I’m privileged to work with really great actors like Tito Ipe (Philip Salvador) and Tito Boyet (Christopher de Leon). Ang dami kong nakukuha sa kanila bilang artista at bilang tao. And I always value what I learn from them. Sometimes, I even learn just by observing them at work.
What advice would you give to those wanting to follow your footsteps in this business?

You have to have a conscious desire to keep wanting to be better. That’s why I never see myself as being in competition with other actors; I’m in competition with myself. Each day, you have to want to better yourself. That’s the only way to succeed.

Baron Geisler in His Career

Despite the issues that have come his way, controversial actor Baron Geisler considers 2008 as a blessing. Since he joined Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 in 2007, Baron has been constantly in the headlines. He was criticized for his actions in the PBB house and a few months after, a harassment case was filed against him by Patrizia Martinez, daughter of his friend and PBB housemate Yayo Aguila. In the middle of the court fight, he received his first Best Actor award for the indie film Jay and even went to the Venice Film Fest where the movie became a finalist.

He was stressed another issue while he was abroad – it was rumored that he was jailed in Italy because of his wild behavior at a party. Baron deprived all accusations and accentuate that he is a changed man, or at least doing his best to be one. "I just want to think of the future, I don't want go back to the past”, he said.
